Article 1: Everything Quentin Tarantino Really Thinks About Violence and the Movies
It was interesting to me how unwilling Tarantino was to talk about the relation between violence in movies and violence in real life in the beginning of the article. The article says, "While he doesn't have a problem with violence in films, he does have a problem with talking about violence in films. He's fed up with it, He's said all he has to say." I don't see why he would have a problem talking about his reasoning in making his films the way that he does. He should be more willing to share with the public his thoughts and reasoning behind what goes into the films he creates. Another thing I thought was interesting in this article is when Tarantino says to an interviewer regarding his film's impact on children, " if the kids will respond to that naturally, it won't make them a violent human being when they grow up, but it could very well make them violent filmmakers when they grow up." He does not believe that films have a connection to children who grow in to violent adults.
Article 2: Violent Media Poisoning Nation's Soul
This article talks about how violence in movies and video games is what is making our country so corrupt. It talks about how children witness hundreds of thousands of simulated deaths that by the time they reach adulthood, they have become accustomed to it and associate death and mayhem with pleasure. Personally, I do not believe that movies and video games cause children grow into killers. I played video games and watch plenty of games as a child and I'm a perfectly normal young adult. While violent video games and movies may effect many teens in their perception of death and violence, there is a deeper cause to these rampage killings and cannot be blamed simply on video games and movies.
Article 3: Columbine: Whose Fault is It
This article talks about the public trying to blame Marilyn Manson for the columbine shootings in Colorado and his response/defense. Manson's interpretation seems to target the media directly for the chaos and blame game. While Manson uses defenses such as the story of Cain and Able, where one savagely killed his brother for his own human advantage, there was nothing more involved. In Manson's case, reporters tried to say the murderers listened to his music and "dressed up like Manson" for the point of making an excuse for the shooters. In my opinion, there will always be a million different perceived reasons why people kill one another. Honestly, I don't think it can ever be explained, but media and the public will always try to make excuses for these cold blooded killers.
